Yes, the travel deals really ARE that goodI've been getting quite a few calls recently from journalists, all asking the same question. They want to know if the travel deals out there are really as good as they're hearing from consumers. To give them (and you) a sense of what's out there, I like to look at our PriceBreakers last-minute deals service, which coincidentally is run by yours truly. Every day, Priceline's product teams recommend their best deals for inclusion in the PriceBreakers list. So it's an excellent deals barometer. And the verdict? If you've got some spare bucks to travel, now's a good time. Hotels are accepting some attention-grabbing Name Your Own Price offers, especially for last-minute travelers. This weekend, we have 3-star Los Angeles hotels accepting bids of $79 a night, which is more than 50% off their published price. How about 4-star Chicago hotels in the Millennium Park area for $68 a night for next weekend. Cruise lines are hungry for business and I'm seeing some pretty amazing PriceBreakers deals. There's one March cruise sale offer with prices as low as $37 a person per night. Then there's a 4-night Baja Mexico cruise for $50 a night per person, which is $78 off the regular rate. And these vacations include stateroom, meals and entertainment. PriceBreakers vacation packages include roundtrip airfare and hotel room. How about a 3-night air & hotel package to the Luxor in Las Vegas for $72 a night? Or a 3-night air & hotel San Francisco package for $66 a night. There's a last-minute Name Your Own Price airline tickets deal with prices up to 60% below published fares. And Hertz is offering up to $20 off weekend rentals. Whether discounts this deep hold into the summer will depend on the economy and whether the travel industry sees its typical influx of summer tourists. If you can, go now. The prices can't be beat.
