Tips for finding the best ski and snowboard vacation deals
Snowboarders and skiers who want more bang for their buck this season will do well to consider spending a bit more for a trip to one of the “destination” resorts outside easy driving distance. Just before the holidays, The Travel Ekspert spoke to the National Ski Areas Association. They had recently completed a survey of skiers and snowboarders and the results were informative. Skiers/riders are an affluent bunch, so it was no surprise that the economy wasn’t going to stop them from hitting the slopes about as much as last year, which was a record 60.5 million skier/rider visits. That said, more than half of the skiers/riders said they were going to spend their slope time closer to home. Many said they were going to reduce the length of their trips by a day or two and look at less-expensive lodging and food options. While this is great news for local economies, it also could mean more crowds, longer lift lines and greater wear and tear on area base covers. The opposite could be true for the less accessible destination resorts in northern New England and the Rockies. Whatever extra gets spent to visit those areas may translate into uncrowded, quality slope time. Priceline.com did some digging and came up with this collection of our best ski deals of the season for hotels, rental cars, airfare and vacation packages. Some of my favorites are: · A $435 per person, 4-night air & hotel vacation package to Park City, including roundtrip airfare from Chicago and accommodations at the Park Plaza Resort. That’s less than $110 a night. · 3.5 star Name Your Own Price® hotel rooms in North Conway, NH, for $50 a night. · A full-size Name Your Own Price® rental car in Salt Lake City for $15 a day. · Round-trip airfare from Boston to Denver for $220. For full details on these and other deals, check the link above.
