 Last week, The Travel Ekspert reported that holiday airfares for Thanksgiving and the end-of-year holidays were running about 10% less than last year.  At the time, the average Thanksgiving airfare was $361 and the average December holiday airfare was $440.

I've decided to run a weekly spot check to see what's happening with holiday fares in general, and report what holiday routes are seeing the biggest week-over-week price moves, up and down.

At the macro level, Thanksgiving airfares increased to an average $372, while  December holiday airfares dropped to an average $421.  Thanksgiving is still the better deal, but Christmas is looking better.

On a route by route basis, there were some pretty big week-over-week fare swings, with fare increases some Thanksgiving routes ramping up by up to 42%. 

I still think it's a good idea to lock in your holiday tickets now while prices are still relatively low compared to last year.
