Name Your Own Price rental car savings holding line in 2009
Earlier this week, I saw a Los Angeles Times story that talked about rental car companies increasing their published rates by about $12 a day. Which naturally raises the question – How does that affect the discounts rental car companies are willing to accept through Priceline’s Name Your Own Price program? The good news is, even though retail rates are going up, we are seeing no changes in the average NYOP discounts our rental car customers are getting so far in 2009. More than half of our customers are saving at least 30% on their rental cars when they name their own price. Not too shabby for this economy. Priceline’s Name Your Own Price service works with five major rental car companies – Alamo, Avis, Budget, Hertz and National. In some cities, we offer off-airport as well as on-airport NYOP rentals. All major car types are offered – economy, compact, mid-size, standard, full-size, premium, luxury, convertible, minivan & SUV. Naming your own price is easy. You pick the dates, pickup/dropoff times, location, car type and, of course, price. If your offer is successful, you’ll get one of those five brands.
